Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions that come up most, straight from the free BFF Academy. Written for Bike Fast Fit EZ; most answers apply to Elite and Pro as well.

Recording problems

A red warning triangle showed up on my recording

That means the recording couldn't produce a trustworthy measurement, for one of two reasons:

  • "Not enough pedal strokes", the app didn't catch enough strokes to compute a result. Pedal steadily through the whole capture and past the final beep.
  • "Unable to track", the app couldn't follow your body clearly enough. Almost always lighting or visibility (more below).

Either way, the displayed values aren't reliable. Just re-record. (Lesson 2 walks through both in more detail.)

"Error Recording" or "unable to capture media." Most often the app doesn't have camera permission: iOS Settings → BFF EZ → make sure Camera is on. Other causes are low storage on the device (the message will say so) or stopping pedaling before the capture finishes.

The app can't track me well. What helps?
  • Light. Strong, even light, ideally daylight. Backlight (a bright window behind you) is the most common killer.
  • Contrast. The app needs to see your hip and foot. Black shorts against a black trainer, or loose clothing hiding your hip line, will trip it up. Wear something that contrasts with the background.
  • Side view, level camera. Frame the whole bike and rider from the side, with the camera level with the top tube.
  • Keep pedaling. Pedal smoothly all the way through the final beep. Slowing or stopping mid-capture loses frames.
Do I need stickers or markers on my body or bike?

No. BFF EZ tracks you with markerless AI, so there's nothing to attach. Just wear clothing that contrasts with your background so the app can see your hip and foot clearly (see above).

Do I have to be on a trainer?

Yes. BFF EZ needs you pedaling in one place, so a stationary trainer or stationary bike is required. Free-pedaling outdoors won't work.

Does a smart trainer or smart bike work?

Yes. Anything that holds the bike stationary while you pedal is fine, including smart trainers (a Wahoo KICKR or Tacx, say) and smart bikes. BFF EZ works across bike types too, road, gravel, mountain, and TT.

Why can't I use the front (selfie) camera?

BFF EZ needs slow-motion at 240 fps to read your pedal stroke accurately, and only your phone's rear camera records that fast. The front camera can't hit that frame rate, so set up with the back of the phone facing you.

> The rule: If a result looks off, re-record before you start adjusting anything. A clean recording fixes most "wrong number" problems.

Reading your results: measurements and units

What does BFF EZ actually measure?

Three things, from one 4-second side recording: Saddle Height (a millimeter adjustment), Saddle Fore/Aft (a millimeter adjustment), and Upper body position (a classification: Upright, Relaxed, or Aggressive). Lessons 2 through 6 walk through each one.

How do I switch between metric and imperial?

Set it in iOS Settings → BFF EZ. It applies to everything.

I recorded twice and got slightly different numbers

A few millimeters of variation between captures (up to about 5 mm) is normal. It reflects tiny differences in your pedaling, foot angle, how you're sitting on the saddle, and the tracking margin. Once you're within that range, you're inside your window, so go by feel rather than chasing an exact number. About a centimeter or more of swing with nothing changed points to a tracking issue, so re-record (check lighting, visibility, steady pedaling).

My measurements changed after an app update. Did I do something wrong?

No. When an update ships improved tracking, BFF EZ re-runs the analysis on your existing recordings the first time you open them. The new values reflect the better algorithm, so trust them over the old ones.

Devices, syncing, and sharing

Which devices does BFF EZ run on, and can I use more than one?

iPhone and iPad, and on an Apple-silicon Mac you can install it as an iOS app. The app and your iCloud storage are tied to your Apple ID, so any device signed in to the same Apple ID can install it, with no second purchase. There's no Android, Windows, or PC version; Bike Fast Fit is Apple-only. You can still take the whole Academy without it, you just wouldn't capture your own measurements.

Which iPhone or iPad do I need?

BFF EZ runs on any iPhone or iPad on iOS 15.5 or newer. For accurate measurements, though, you want a camera that shoots slow-motion at 1080p and 240 fps, which means an iPhone XS or newer. A recent iPad works too; the 9th-generation is about the practical floor, though it captures at 720p and 120 fps, below the ideal. Older devices still install and let you view recordings; they just may not capture cleanly enough for reliable numbers.

What languages does BFF EZ come in?

Seven: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. The app follows your device's language; you can change it under BFF EZ in iOS Settings.

I see different recordings on my iPhone vs. iPad. Why?

Both devices need the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive enabled. Recording metadata (the list, status icons, measurements, position) then syncs automatically; the video files themselves stay on the device where you recorded them.

Nothing is syncing

Check that both devices are on the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive enabled for BFF EZ. Large libraries can take a while to catch up, so give it time before concluding something's wrong. BFF EZ also uses its own iCloud container, separate from Elite and Pro; if you upgrade later, Elite or Pro spots your EZ recordings and asks whether to bring them over. Say yes once and it keeps doing it. If you tap Do Not Import and change your mind, the "Import BFF EZ Sessions" switch in iOS Settings turns it back on.

How do I send my result to a fitter or friend?

Long-press the recording → Report for a PDF you can send through any app.

Can a friend who also uses BFF EZ see my recording?

Long-press → Share for a BFF EZ data file they can open in their app.

I deleted a recording I want back

Within 7 days: main menu → Recently Deleted → restore. After 7 days it's gone for good, so restore promptly.

What BFF EZ does and doesn't do

Where do I set crank length?

You can't in BFF EZ; it's fixed at 172.5 mm. With non-standard cranks the adjustment direction is still right, but the exact millimeter value is slightly off. Elite and Pro let you enter your crank length.

Can I change the recording duration?

Not in BFF EZ (fixed at 4 seconds). Pro allows you to change the recording duration.

Does BFF EZ trace my body through the whole pedal stroke?

Yes, but BFF EZ only shows your position at the key points of the stroke. Viewing the full video tracing of your joints through the entire stroke is a BFF Elite feature.

Subscriptions and billing

What does BFF EZ cost?

$4.99 per year, and it starts with a 7-day free trial. It's an annual subscription, sold through the Apple App Store. Pricing shown is for the US; the App Store sets local prices by country.

Why a subscription?

Within Apple's ecosystem, the subscription model is what keeps ongoing development sustainable. All current Bike Fast Fit apps are subscription-only.

My trial or subscription ended. Did I lose my recordings?

No, you can still open and view recordings you've already made. You just can't record new ones until you renew.

I'm being asked to subscribe but I already paid, or I'm on a new device

Restore your purchase: main menu → SupportRestore Purchase. If it still shows trial mode, close and reopen the app to give Apple a moment, then try again. If it won't restore, email info@bikefastfit.com and we'll sort it out.

I installed Bike Fast Fit Pro and my Elite sessions are not there

Check that your Pro subscription or trial is active. Bike Fast Fit Elite and Pro share one library, so nothing has to be moved across, but Pro cannot read that library until the subscription starts. Once it is active, your sessions are where you expect them.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Bike Fast Fit.

How do I request a refund?

We would love the opportunity to help you sort out any issues you are experiencing. Just email us at info@bikefastfit.com. Apple handles App Store refunds: main menu in the top right corner of the app → SupportRequest Refund.

Known quirks, and still stuck

The in-app Help page says 3½ seconds but recordings seem longer

That was a bug in older versions, now fixed. Update BFF EZ. Help will then read 4 seconds, the real recording length.
